The Open Book Initiative (TOBI)
What is it?

The Open Book Initiative is a statewide, pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade reading improvement effort based on professional development.

The initiative will unfold statewide over three years beginning with a pilot of grantees in southeast Idaho. This fall, schools and school districts in that region were selected to participate.

What are TOBI's goals?

  • Improve teacher knowledge and skill across content areas
  • 90% of all students in participating schools will be reading at grade level by the end of a three-year grantee cycle
  • Create a statewide culture of reading
