J. A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation
- Since its inception in 1966, the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation has been committed to the improvement of education in Idaho. Positive development of children and youth is a key focus of the Foundation’s giving. The family Foundation was started by Joe and Kathryn with private family funds.
- The Foundation has given more than $240 million in the past 10 years. The Foundation will give more than $22 million this year through its Community and Education Grants programs. Actual amounts given by foundations will differ from year to year based on the strength of the portfolio. Foundations have been hit hard in recent years, with many returning to a pattern of normal giving as the economy strengthens.
- There is no relationship between the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation, and the Albertson Corporation or the Albertson Stores Foundation.
- The sale of the Albertson Corporation will have no impact on the Foundation’s endowment and giving.
Community Grants Program
- The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation has awarded $5.7 million in Community Grants in 2005. A complete list of Community Grant recipients is attached. Grant recipients are selected based on their ability to positively impact the lives of children, and to fill a critical need not being met elsewhere in the community. Organizations granted Foundation funding are expected to be well-run and demonstrate the ability to leverage Foundation investments.
Education Grants Program
- The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation will award more than $17 million in education grants in 2005.
- In 2005, the Foundation granted funds that enabled 30 Idaho public school districts to successfully transfer to a new student information system and to provide data to the state in a common reporting format.
- The Foundation will continue its Education Grants program in 2006, giving to organizations that help improve education for Idaho’s children. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant proposals.
